The Victoria Convalescent Trust (VCT) is a registered charity (no.1064585). The main purpose is to make grants to fund or part-fund short breaks for those, including carers, of any age, living in England and Wales: Who are in need of a short break for the purpose of convalescence, recuperative care or respite care; Who do not have adequate resources to fund themselves; and Who have been unable to obtain sufficient assistance from the statutory services.
We give grants to people on low incomes and in need of goods or services who are resident in our area of benefit - the local authority wards of Brixton Hill, Clapham Common, Clapham Town, Ferndale, Larkhall and Thornton. We also give grants to organisations operating within our area of benefit who provide services or facilities to those in need.
Brixton Advice Centre promotes access to justice through the provision of high quality legal advice, assistance and representation to people who would otherwise be unable to afford legal services. Advice is provided on debt and money issues, welfare benefits and housing problems. The Money Carer Foundation is a national social enterprise that provides a trusted appointeeship service to protect vulnerable adults and to manage their everyday finances in line with our local partnership with the DWP. This involves paying utility bills, care contributions, rent and dealing with a variety of other financial activity on behalf of the client. Welfare Benefits Advice - Lambeth residents only - Check and advise on your entitlements, challenging decisions. Walcot Foundation - Student Finance help and advice, advice on childcare whilst studying, debts and budgeting - suitability for the Walcot Foundation educational funding - Lambeth residents only. Utilities advice - Thames Water customers - managing or decreasing your utilities debt, helping switch suppliers and applying for discounts/grants. Counselling service - Low Cost Adult service any borough - talking to someone in private about difficult thoughts, experiences and feelings, without judgement. Inspire for the Community - volunteers who have received advice or counselling -use your skills, interests and experiences to take an active role in the Inspire Community whilst receiving training and volunteer as a community adviser. General Legal Advice - Consumer, general court matters from our qualified volunteer lawyers.
Abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional or financial which takes place within an intimate or family relationship. Abuse can include neglect, controlling behaviour, forced marriage, honour based violence or female genital mutilation. We understand that older women may face additional barriers to getting support such as mobility issues, disabilities, age related conditions and abuse from adult children. If you are being abused, remember you are not alone. We can help you by providing advice and support with: -Improving safety -Housing and homelessness -Finances and welfare benefits -Access to legal advice -Emotional support We also run workshops and training on domestic abuse for professionals and agencies working with women over 55.
